La dame aux camélias is known as the saddest and the most beautiful love story of Paris in the 19th century. It was adapted by the Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi based on the novel by French writer Alexandre Dumasfils. The sorrowful yet powerful melodies and the rich texture of the orchestration make this opera extremely popular around the world. However, when the unfolding of the plot in an opera with singing gives way to speechless ballet, the attributes associated with music present a daunting challenge to the choreographer. The choreographer of La dame aux camélias, Allen Yu, is a Taiwanese dancer with the most prominent achievement in the German-speaking countries. Allen Yu is currently the Deputy Ballet Director of Graz Operhaus, Austria and Artistic Director of Taipei Chamber Ballet. For this year’s festival, Yu and Taipei Chamber Ballet are ready to team up with Taipei Symphony Orchestra in order to create the atmosphere of luxurious ballet and music for the audience.
